Linux Lite is not listed as an HP distro option for new printer install.  Can I click an alternative "Distro" box??

Linux Lite is based on Ubuntu and it's version 14.04
If you are using the HP Wizard/Installer

This is the quickest way to install

Great. Thanks for your help.  I downloaded the new install program, but i'm receiving this error message and the referenced link says "page not found":

HPLIP cannot detect printers in your network.
This may be due to existing firewall settings blocking the required ports. When you are in a trusted network environment, you may open the ports for network services like mdns and slp in the firewall. For detailed steps follow the link. http://hplipopensource.com/node/374

Hi,

When you run the installer you need the printer to be connected with USB cable initially.
Follow instructions, and when the installers finished,
It should say:
"Now Remove the USB Cable" and then run HP-Setup ip.address in a terminal
The ip.address will be shown on the last screen.

Yes, that link is dead by the look's of things
All I can say is it worked for me and was done in a few minutes

WiFi is switched on on your printer..??

Have you not looked at the Printers section of the Linux Lite Help Manual?  Menu->Favorites->Help Manual

Hi,

I have just run the installer again to check and checked the instructions
Accept the defaults*, until the last screen:

Re-start or Plugin, select ignore.

Then select install method GUI, and a GUI opens.
You need a temporary connection via USB.
Then choose Wireless/802.11(3rd option down), step through the screens adding it to your WiFi network.
On the last screen, make a note  of the hp-setup & ip.address.
Disconnect the USB cable, open terminal and enter command.
